Let $f:\mathbb{R}\to\mathbb{R}$ be a function, and let $(a,b)$ be an open interval. (This can be done with closed intervals or half-open intervals as well.) Then $f$ is said to be convex on $(a,b)$ if $f''(x)\ge 0$ for all $x\in(a,b)$.
