Julia Robinson was a mathematician at UC Berkeley who is best known for her work on Hilbert's Tenth Problem. She helped establish that there is no general algorithm for solving Diophantine equations.
Today, she is remembered and honored at the Julia Robinson Mathematics Festival in the San Francisco Bay Area, and its associated problem solving challenge.
