Four Hanes students qualified to take the 2006 AIME and one represented Hanes on the 2006 NC ARML "B" team.

He is also a volunteer math coach for Hanes Middle School in Winston-Salem, NC. Since 2005, Hanes teams have placed 1st, 8th, and 3rd at the NC State MathCounts competitions and earned a plaque in 2007 for the top AMC performance among NC middle schools. The team participates in the NC state math subject and comprehensive contests. Several have placed highly, including the 2007 NC Algebra II champion.
