A number line is a pictoral representation of the real numbers; it is typically represented as a line with tick marks, where each tick mark represents an integer. Often, the number line has the the integer zero in the middle, and positive numbers to the right and negative numbers to the left. Conceptually, the number line continues indefinitely. Often a perpendicular axis is used to represent imaginary numbers, which is the complex plane.
